I’ll end the month with another abstract. This one is not as abstract as some I have posted, but it still fits that category.
I love the smoothness of the ripples and the high contrast of each one.
When you are shooting abstracts, zoom in, zoom out, rotate your camera or maybe just shoot from a different angle to get different light.

Experiencing Fall in the Idaho mountains is a great thing to do. There are many pretty sites to see as nature dies down for Winter. This photo is taken on my parent’s ranch just a few miles east of Boise. It is a fun to place to visit, allowing oneself to quiet the mind and enjoy the things nearby.
These daisies are normally fully yellow until they start to die in the fall, at which time they take on a new beauty with the darker colors on the petals. It’s kind of like everything else, I guess. We as people get older and change. One form of beauty takes over the old, but the beauty remains.
When I took this particular photo, I opened up the lens to a very wide aperture to keep the background blurry. I also positioned myself so that the bright yellow of he petals would be contrasted against a dark background.

Just a few weeks ago, my wife and I traveled to the Friday Harbor in the San Juan Islands of Washington state. The only way to get to this beautiful place is by boat or small plane and the fastest and most inexpensive way is by ferry.
We were on our way back to the mainland on a somewhat cloudy and rainy day when I spotted another ferry following us back to Anacortes. Just a few minutes later, the sun found a thin part of the sky to shine through and the sky and water became a very vivid orange color.
I took about 20 shots in about a 15 minute period, trying to capture the event the best way I could. This photo was my favorite of the bunch.

I got to be on the other side of the camera today. A good friend of mine (Scott Rasmussen) and I shoot a lot of sporting events together and post the photos for sale on IdahoSportsPics.com to the participants. Today I was riding, so he was the shooter.
This particular event was the 36th annual Bogus Basin Hillclimb which is a bike race starting in Boise, Idaho and ending 15 miles later and over 3,000 feet higher at the Bogus Basin ski resort. This was my 25th year to personally participate in the event.
Nice job on all the great shots, Scott.

Here is Alle’s September calendar shot taken while she was sitting inside a guitar case. She must be a musician at heart.
