Senior Portrait Shoot

Published by Jim under People,Portraits,Studio

2009-04-28Every once in a while I get to photograph a real natural model who makes it easy from the photographer’s point of view. This was the case on Saturday as I shot senior portraits for a good friend of ours. She was very much at home in front of the camera and everything came together quite nicely for the photo session.

Lighting was quite simple.  I had a 2×3 foot softbox over my right shoulder and one strobe high over the model’s right shoulder to give the nice hair light.

The background was black seamless paper.

The model and her mom were quite pleased with the results, so I’d call that a successful shoot.

Eclipse of the Dome

Published by Jim under Sunset,iPhone

2009-04-20I was out bike riding south of Boise a few weeks ago when I happened upon a very large shadow that was going across the road. It didn’t take but a second to stop and scope out the situation. The sun was setting behind the local Doppler Radar dome, so I took out the iPhone to see what I could capture. The iPhone does not have a very good camera, but I tried to make the most of what I had with me. Several shots were taken as I positioned myself to get various levels of direct sunlight coming over the top of the dome. This particular one was the best of the bunch, in my opinion.

Dessert

Published by Jim under Uncategorized

dessertMy wife and had a great dinner the other night at a local restaurant named “The Game Keeper.” We ordered dessert and it looked so fancy that I had to grab a photo of it with the iPhone.

This chef is quite an artist!

Self Portrait

Published by Jim under Cycling,Portraits,Sports

2009-04-06Maybe I’m a little crazy, but hey, if I think I see a photo opportunity, I’ll try to get it.

This image was captured with my iPhone while cycling a few weeks ago.  I reached out with my left hand, pointed the lens in what I thought would be a pretty good direction and clicked the shutter.

The iPhone is not the easiest thing to hang on to, especially when some of your fingers are searching for the right place on the screen to push.  This was brought to light when I dropped it at work on a tile floor and part of the touch screen quit working.  I took it to the AT&T store, but it was 1 month out of warrantee, so ended up getting a new iPhone 3G to replace it. Now I have a faster connection to the internet and a great GPS built in.  I suppose you could call what happened a good, albeit expensive thing.

Hmmm.  I sure got off on a tangent, didn’t I?

Anyway, try a self portrait sometime.
